Ginger Semmelhack is a contemporary artist based in Brooklyn, New York, known for exaggerated and evocative figurative paintings that explore themes of voyeurism, gender, and envy. Semmelhack’s artistic journey began in 2021 after winning five regional awards through the Scholastic Art and Writing competition, including gold key where she exhibited in a student show at the Metropolitan Museum of Art. This opportunity led her to pursue painting professionally in 2022. Her debut exhibition, Girlhood, 2023, features young female figures engaging in innocent play while discussing the imposed sexuality perceived from an adult perspective. Inspired by Alex Katz, David Hockney, and John Currin, Semmelhack’s works borrow a similar vibrancy. Semmelhack’s works have been recognized by Suboart International Art Magazine, Hyperallergic, and Artnet: Affordable Art Fair Fellowship. Graduating with a BFA from Kenyon College, her most recent work is heavily influenced by her experiences as a young woman being envious of close male friendships. Semmelhack’s work has been featured in numerous solo and group exhibitions. Currently, she is continuing her most recent body of work, Grapple, as she prepares for her next solo show in September of 2025. Semmelhack’s art invites viewers to reflect on our preconceived notions of platonic love and friendship, while acknowledging her rose-tinted and humorous lens of boyhood from the female gaze. Upcoming Exhibitions: September 9, 2025 — "Grapple" Solo Exhibition, Eleventh Hour, 61 Atlantic Ave, Brooklyn, NY 11201
